This week's microfiction is a 100-word story about a detective working to solve her case.

Many of my micro stories are inspired by prompts provided by THE FICTION DEALER Substack. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re interested in reading more microfics — or writing your own!

Unsolved

Detective Holloway’s bloodshot eyes were a testament to the nights spent hunting for a serial rapist that had been plaguing the city for months. She finally tracked down one Joshua Chastain, a youth of sixteen who looked eerily like her son, Andrew. Chastain’s history of petty crime suggested nothing violent, but a grueling interrogation had led to his confession.

Andrew was there to greet her when she came home, wary brown eyes set in a square face that looked so much like Chastain’s.

“Did you get him?” Andrew asked.

Holloway stared at Andrew like she had never seen him before.
