This week's microfiction is a 100-word story about a scientific discovery.

Many (but not all) of my micro stories are inspired by prompts provided by THE FICTION DEALER Substack. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re interested in reading more microfics — or writing your own!

The Wormhole

A wormhole had opened, and a planet had come through: blue and green swirls, looking so much like our own. It felt like serendipity. That was our first mistake.

When we sent the astronaut, it was a mission borne out of desperation from melting ice caps and dying crops. With no guarantee that they would reach the planet, we were left to hope and endure. We waited through a decade of climate chaos for confirmation that they’d reached the planet.

Then, when the transmission arrived, it was played worldwide. Our second mistake.

"It's not a planet…it's alive, and it's watching—"

Writing without a paywall is important to me, but writing is work. If you enjoyed this post or found it helpful, I would be honored if you would consider donating.
