This week's microfiction is a 90-word story about repeating cycles.

Cycles

Kerrie sat in the laundromat, detergent fragrancing the air, and considered the washing cycle. Pre-wash, soak, wash, rinse, spin. The result? Refreshed. Renewed. Reborn.

How simple would life be if humans had a wash cycle? Add a bit of bleach for the stains of the soul. Pre-wash yourself with shame, then soak up the guilt. Wash away your failings. Rinse off. Spin yourself into a life that will soon become dirtied again.

The buzzer beeped. Kerrie checked her clothes.

The bloodstains had washed away, but they would be back soon.

Writing without a paywall is important to me, but writing is work. If you enjoyed this post or found it helpful, I would be honored if you would consider donating.
