This week's microfiction is a 100-word story about temptation.

Voices of the Forest

The forest kisses the edge of our homestead. When the sun shines, it overflows with birds and gossiping squirrels. Visit alongside the sun, and you can enjoy the wind’s song whistling through the trees.

When moonlight bathes the forest, or rain and fog canvas the area, we huddle and ignore the inviting voices.

Come join us. Come dance; come play; come live everlong.

My older brother, Jonah, obeyed the call. The forest swallowed him, as a great fish had once swallowed his namesake.

Does he live everlong? Could I?

I will not go to them.

I will not…

I will…
