This week's microfiction is an 80-word story about the things we do for love.
Many of my micro stories are inspired by prompts provided by THE FICTION DEALER Substack. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re interested in reading more microfics — or writing your own!
The Weight of Love
Someone’s screaming, but it doesn’t register. Not until my son is the one shouting in my face, asking what to do.
Poor Henry. It’s his first time driving at night.
I finally realize the screams are coming from the female pedestrian the car hit. Blood pools beneath her skull. Bone sticks out of her right leg. She begs for help.
“What do we do?” Henry is only a boy. He shouldn’t have to carry this weight.
“Nobody needs to know.”
Writing without a paywall is important to me, but writing is work. If you enjoyed this post or found it helpful, I would be honored if you would consider donating.
