This week's microfiction is an 80-word story about a secret doorway.

Many (but not all) of my micro stories are inspired by prompts provided by THE FICTION DEALER Substack. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re interested in reading more microfics — or writing your own!

Patience

Ethel rocked in front of a crackling fire, trying to warm her bones and ease her joints. That was when she saw the little doorway next to the hearth.

Strange—in the ninety-eight years she’d lived there, a door had never appeared.

Too small to enter standing, it was only large enough for her to crawl through. With agonizing effort, Ethel got down and crawled.

What was behind the door?

To find out, you’ll have to wait until you’re ninety-eight.

Writing without a paywall is important to me, but writing is work. If you enjoyed this post or found it helpful, I would be honored if you would consider donating.
