This week's microfiction is an 80-word story about a teacher's lasting words.

No Imagination

“You have no imagination,” my tenth-grade English teacher told me. She delivered her words clinically, like a diagnosis, after reading a short story I wrote for class. I imagine she had been a fine teacher once, but her spark had long since faded.

Anyhow, I knew she was wrong because I had no problem imagining all manner of horrors befalling her. Her words stuck, though. The careless words always do.

Thank you for awarding me this Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

Writing without a paywall is important to me, but writing is work. If you enjoyed this post or found it helpful, I would be honored if you would consider donating.
