This week's microfiction is a 60-word story about the tricks your mind can play.
Inkblot
You study the purple bruise on the underside of your wrist like it’s an inkblot test. Turn it one way, and it’s a human head, mouth open, screaming—screaming. Twist it the other way, and there’s a damaged butterfly with broken wings. You poke the tender spot, savoring the sunburst of pain. It’s not an inkblot. It’s just a bruise.
Writing without a paywall is important to me, but writing is work. If you enjoyed this post or found it helpful, I would be honored if you would consider donating.
