This week's microfiction is a 100-word story about traversing a dangerous jungle.

Concrete

In the early morning hours, Janine traversed the jungle with the skill of a seasoned explorer. Canoeing down the river, she dodged needle-tooth piranhas and avoided alligators’ sinister gazes. Her muscles ached as she slashed away at heavy vines to fight her way to shelter, but with the help of her compass, she reached her destination.

Then, as she settled in, a jaguar pounced and caught her!

“Do you have the Russmann report?” Bob, her supervisor, asked, holding a coffee mug. “It was due Friday.”

Janine sighed and settled in for another workday, her jungle replaced with concrete and cubicles.

Writing without a paywall is important to me, but writing is work. If you enjoyed this post or found it helpful, I would be honored if you would consider donating.
