A Beginner's Poetry

Lately, a couple of Substacks I follow have been posting poetry. It's put me in a poetic mood, so I wanted to share some of my own poetry.

However, I'm not a very good poet! (Just being honest.) So, if you want to read some good poetry, make sure you also check out Dashcomma's Language & Loneliness Substack and The Fiction Dealer Substack.

Everything I'm posting today is a haiku or a tanka. They're also total bummers! I haven't figured out how to write happy poetry.

An Island

What they don't tell you

about burning bridges is

you become marooned.

Bed Warmer

Embers in my touch;

warm enough to fill your bed,

but never your heart.

Falling Leaves

The leaves on the trees

are falling like I fell for

you on that spring day.

I wish I had known that our

love would not outlast the leaves.

Hurricane Me

My wave of madness

leaves a wake of destruction

in its selfish path.

Baby, I’m a hurricane.

You’re a castle built on sand.

Pluck Me

My dehiscent heart—

overripe, waiting to be

plucked by your fingers.

White Noise

Beehive in my brain,

quieted by swallowing

honey-coated wool.

Writing without a paywall is important to me, but writing is work. If you enjoyed this post or found it helpful, I would be honored if you would consider donating.
